And Tottenham fans are constantly having to argue with opposition supporters about Lennon with many remembering days gone by when he had no final ball and little in the way of variation in his dribbling.

Surely anyone who has watched Lennon play this season can see that those days are over?

Cliff Jones on Lennon:

“For me, Aaron is now one of the top players in the Premier League.

“Everyone knows he’s got great pace, that ability to go past players and now his final pass has improved – that’s been important for him.

“He’s also chipping in with the odd goal now and that’s just as important for a winger.

“You can see his confidence and when he steps out onto that pitch he knows he can take on any player with the pace he has.

“He’s also value for money. When he gets the ball, there is an expectancy there, fans get to their feet and that’s always a good sign.

“He’s a special player and I’m sure he’s going to be a top player for a number of years to come.”

David Ginola on Lennon:

“We talk about players who can deliver and Aaron Lennon is one of those players. What you expect from a player like that is week in, week out, to deliver opportunities to players around him and create for himself as well and he’s doing that.

“He’s a young lad and he has all the talent to be right at the top.

“I always thought that was the case and now he has to keep on working, make the most out of every training session, the most out of every game and that’s all he can do. If you are focused on what you can achieve, no-one can disturb you.”

Lots of Spurs players are in action this weekend and in mid-week in some vital World Cup Qualifiers. The company that are running the Ukraine Vs England match are also running loads of other matches, but much cheaper.

Wales have a host of injury problems and so Gareth Bale is expected to play on the left wing against a decent Finland side. Sign up for that match here.

Harry Redknapp on David Bentley:

It’s not easy for him I suppose. ‘He doesn’t see a lot of light at the end of the tunnel, he sees Aaron Lennon playing well. All he can do is when he’s in the team is perform, work hard and show a good attitude.Then his chance will come.’

On the need to show passion for the game even on the bench.

‘Look at Man United, look at Neville, the excitement he showed at his team winning against Manchester City and he was only a sub. He was jumping higher than Fergie when they scored and that’s why they are where they are.

‘I remember losing at Bolton last year and looking at the bench. Two of them were asleep with hats pulled down and blankets over them. I said, “it’s hard for 30 grand a week”, and “sorry for dragging you away from your missus and a cup of tea”.

Thought you’d all enjoy reading a blog post from a Man Utd fan on the battle between Lennon and Evra. It’s gone to the top of the top read stories on Newsnow Man Utd.

Here’s an extract from it:

“I appreciate the talents and the frightening pace of the Spurs man but it’s still a mystery for me why our world-class left-back regularly comes off second best against him. Take the Carling Cup final where he was tormented; take the league game at Old Trafford when he was skinned on several occasions, leading to two goals; or the league clash at White Hart Lane in February 2008 when we came within moments of losing. He just could not cope with Lennon on these occasions…”

“…I don’t know if Evra is concerned by Lennon – hopefully not, a relaxed Evra is far better than an anxious one – but it might be worth to start Park instead of Nani, to offer some extra protection on our left. Do I sound like a coward?”

So, Aaron Lennon has displayed to the nation what Spurs fans have been seeing week in and week out for the last year: End product to go with his lightening pace and dribbling.

In a post match debate with friends yesterday, the subject was the best right winger in the Premiership and the strength of Arron Lennon’s claim to that title.

Think that’s a mad thought?

Think about who his main rivals are.

Chelsea don’t seem to have a right winger. They usually play a central midfielder there and that player tends to drift inside. Their only options as out and out right wingers are Kalou and Joe Cole. Kalou isn’t on Lennon’s level and I don’t think many would disagree with that. And Joe Cole rarely plays on the right, he’s more of a left winger or central attacking player (even though he’s right footed). The reason he doesn’t play on the right is because he isn’t effective from that position. Lennon would be the best right winger at Chelsea.

Man Utd have Antonio Valencia who is a great player. But he doesn’t have the influence that Arron Lennon does on matches. He doesn’t get to the byline as much, doesn’t beat his man as often and he doesn’t get the ball into the box as consistently.

Arsenal have Theo Walcott who is probably at the stage in his development that Lennon was two years ago. He’s injured a lot and extremely inconsistent but capable of some barnstorming performances. Time will tell as to who will develop into the better player but I know who I’d pick for a big match right now if Walcott was fit. I’d pick Lennon because he’s far less sporadic.

Liverpool’s only offering in this debate is Yossi Benayoun, a vastly under-rated player in my opinion but sadly not as electrifying and terrifying to defenses as our Aaron.

And who else is there? Shaun Wright-Phillips? See that debate here – but, just… NO. Ashley Young? The right footed left winger that hasn’t done it for the last 6 months? The one that one of the best coaches in world football (Capello) didn’t even pick for the bench last night? West Ham’s Valon Behrami? I don’t think so.

You could say that the Premiership doesn’t have that much depth in terms of right wingers, that Lennon is the best right winger in the Premiership by default or some other equally stingy point of view.

But at the moment, whichever way you cut it, Spurs have the best right winger in the Premiership and his name is Aaron Lennon.
