Adriano would certainly fit in with Gio and Ledley, but he won't be coming to Spurs

The main incoming transfer stories this week have revolved around Adriano, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Sulley Muntari. All are outrageously good players, but alas, none are likely to be donning the famous white and blue of Tottenham Hotspur come January.

Muntari is the one out of the three that I’d want the most because he’s the one we actually need. But twice in the last week he’s been asked about the move and twice the burly Ghanaian has refuted its substance, once at the end of last week and once today. And in a video interview against a backdrop of a huge fishtank in the London Aquarium, Harry Redknapp yesterday refuted the rumours too.

True, the Harry denial was a classic nudge nudge, wink wink Redknapp special; “the lad’s a great player but we’ve not made contact’ – translation: ‘if you’re listening son, we want you’. But Muntari isn’t going to want to leave Inter in the middle of a season in which he’s likely to pocket some serious medals. And the only way Mourinho will force him out is as bait for a player he wants.  The one Spurs player we know he wants is Jenas and, whilst I’m firmly in the pro-Jermaine camp, Mourinho isn’t a complete clown. Muntari is plainly a better player than our mr marmite. Watch this space for summer but I very much doubt that this one will happen in January.

Adriano and Huntelaar are just ridiculous tabloid talk. They’re not going to come to Spurs to sit on the bench and Harry isn’t likely to bring in a first choice striker when the ones he’s got are doing so well. The only way this could possibly happen is if Robbie Keane was sold. Even then, our notorious wage cap would be a massive stumbling block. And in any case, selling Keane in January wouldn’t be a Redknapp type thing to do. It wouldn’t be pragmatic to sell a proven Premiership player and replace him with a ’superstar’ who would bring with him a superstar ego, a tainted rep’ and huge expectation – in other words, a recipe for at least a few months of settling in.

Back to square one then. Veloso anyone?

    Good article.
The problem with seeing a Keane move to Celtic is, quite simply, it isn’t just about what he does on the pitch. ‘Arry has gone on record several times to say that Keano is incredibly important for what he does off the pitch, in terms of morale and team spirit, and that bringing him back to the Lane was vital in these areas. I really can’t see ‘Arry selling a player who is not only Prem. proven (as you say), but also important for team spirit, and briging in one who, even if playing, is not going to be Prem. proven (as you say), but could quite easily be disruptive interms of team spirit (I’m thinking Adriano here).

    Firstly I’d like to say … ‘ Sean ‘ – you’re a mug. Secondly I’d like to say ‘ I’ve got my gooch out ‘

If you’ve got your gooch out I’d like to sniff it!
