Here’s a morning round of the latest transfer news.
Gareth Southgate has today admitted that David Wheater could leave Middlesboro if the right offer comes in. With injuries to Woody and Dawson, and Ledley’s situation, there has been speculation that Spurs could make a bid if the Chavez trial doesn’t work out. You can see that interview below.
The Jenas to Villa rumours keep on coming. This time he’s off if we can prize Scott Parker from West Ham. Parker was top drawer against us on Sunday and seems to have shaken off his injury worries. He’s also exactly the type of player the squad needs because we lack a true ball winner to cover for Wilson Palacios. The prices being quoted are between £5mil and £7mil. We hope this comes off but doubt West Ham would sell. We can but hope.
Joe Cole to Spurs is another persistent rumour. The rumour mongers are telling us it’s World Cup year, he needs to playing, bla bla and so on. We think this is just nonsense, the bloke’s injured! Of course he hasn’t been in the team. The fact is, Chelsea don’t have an embarrassment of riches on the right side of midfield (a position Cole can play in) and don’t have another player like him who can slot in across attacking midfield. Cole will get games, loves Chelsea and this wont happen.
The Modric swap for Carrick and £10mil rumours are just that, but irritating nonetheless. However, if Man Utd are willing to let Carrick go, lets give them a fat wad of cash and take him in a straight deal. I kid you not, if we could sign Carrick back, I’d go and put serious money on us for the top 4. I know a lot of you don’t want him, likening his move to the Berba one, but he left with dignity and gave us the choice. We could have held on to him but chose to take the money. Him and Palacios with Modric and Lennon would be a top, top midfield, the midfield with absolutely everything.
One thing is pretty clear, there will be at least some movement between now and the end of the window. We’re hoping for a player who can competition for Jenas and Thudd and back up to Palacios as the ball winner.

Modric could walk in to any team in the world and not look out of place but I agree I would like to have Carrick back. Why not try and be cheecky and offer United Pav plus cash and get Berba back!!!!
I really really hope we can keep Modric. There is no reason for us selling him especially if we are only going to be replacing him with Carrick. I’ve got no problem with Carrick coming back to the lane but not at the expense of Modric. If Jenas is on his way out then he would be a good/better replacement. Joe Cole is never going to happen as much as I would like it. Who would you take out for him to get on the pitch. The only option would be to drop Modric for him to fit in which would be a no no. And both players are too good to be on the bench.
I think defender wise we could do with one more. I think David Wheater would be a good one but again he would be sitting on the bench for the majority of the season being arguably 4th choice centre-back when everyone is fit and playing.
I think we only need one more addition to the team if any at all, which would be a box to box midfielder (if Jenas goes), but with the way that Huddlestone playing at the moment, I can’t see anyone taking his place, so again we would only be buying cover. Anyway 3 wins outta 3 and Birmingham at the weekend!
COYS!!
Carrick would be good to interchange with Hoddlestone and Cole to interchange with Lennon so we have continuity if either gets injured – get rid of Jenas and Bentley (who are current replacements for Hudd and Lennon, but not like-for-like – Carrick and Cole are). Can’t see Cole coming though, or Fergie letting Carrick going without getting Modric in return (WHICH MUST NOT HAPPEN!).
Think we have enough at the back for this season as Corluka can provide central defensive cover with Hutton / Chimbo going to RB). We do need a long-term replacement for Ledley though, so hope the club nurtures a young replacement through the next year or so instead of splashing more cash on a bench-warmer.
THIS IS EXACLY WHAT FERGIE WANTS SPURS FANS FRETTING OVER A BOGUS DEAL.This is part of whiskey nose is head games utd havent got any money ,yes they have the brand to make it but at the moment cash flow is tight.Utd lost a lot of money on there asia tour through that hotel bombing and there sponsers bail out by the american goverment AIG.This is why fergie stunned the football world with is perchase of Michael Owen .Secondly upsetting one of our top players is somthing fergie has done on a regular basis and you will find out if you look back we are doing well at the time or we are about to play them .H e has courted defoe berbatov carrick lennon in different seasons past so dont give the bully boy with the fading team free advertising of his admeration of one of our players .And just so you dont get shocked if moderic starts to miiss sitters or put in a bad shift we can still win without him and wether my fellow spurs fans aggre hudds would be missed far more for assists than moderic the stats also back me on this one .So enjoy mods while it last our foundation is solid and we can take mods leaving unlike other years i expect bostock to start earning is spurs this year.
Modric will be staying as long as we can keep improving, simple as that really. Carrick isnt gonna be leaving so lets not be silly about this, Fergie never streghtens another EPL team. Not once has he sold to a rival to my knowledge.
We have a great midfield now and have great cover, so maybe yes we might find a diamond somewhere but what we have is pretty good and good enough to stay in the top six all season.
United fan here. Wondering why you all are getting so hot and bothered about Sir Alex’s comments. All he said was – Modric is a good player. He hasn’t acted like those Spanish thugs who everyday used to come out and talk about Ronaldo’s DREAM and are now doing the same with Fabregas. He just meant it as a compliment. Redknapp and Modric accepted it as one, so why don’t you lot? It sure as hell is easier than believing made up tabloid nonsense. That is exactly what I think about this rumor – nonsense. Sure we like the sound of having a world class winger in our squad, but at what expense? But Carrick in return? Not for me. He might be on the receiving end of a barrage of criticism from some of us United faithful at the moment, but the fact remains – He, along with Fletcher(who never gets enough credit – I rate him over Mascherano) is our best midfielder. Also take into account the timing of these rumors – so close to deadline day – it would be bad business for both clubs if the deal was to go through as there wouldn’t be enough time to search for replacements.
As far as us being skint is concerned, Sir Alex and the Glazer’s have said time and again that there is tons of cash in the bag- the only problem is Man City and Madrid have behaved like spoilt brats this summer and bought every toy in the store…there’s nothing decent left for us. So please don’t jump to conclusions.
Finally – I like your style of football and are pleased you’re doing well at the moment. Thanks for nicking 3 off the scousers. The Lane does look a daunting place right now. I hope that changes by the time we need to go there. Cheers- hope you finish above Citeh this season.
PS – If Lescott is worth 24m, Carrick must go for at least 48?
wow …… a UTD fan with Humility and some football knowledge ….. you are a welcome change to the normal opposition fans that grace our forums .
+ my dad and brother are UTD fans and they too have adopted us as their second side (not feeder club though!) lol
thanks mate..although there are enough of us sensible ones around.
