Marcel Desailly thinks England are lacking a top notch striker.
The former Chelsea scummer said: “England may be do not have a top, top amazing striker yet, but otherwise England are really complete.
Don’t know what Marcel Desailly has been smoking but Rooney is obviously a top, top striker.
A question that has been brewing in my mind however is this: Is Defoe now a top striker too? Is he anywhere near that ‘World Class’ category? Sounds like a silly question right? Most people would say he’s not. But if he was banging in goals like he is for England and Spurs, but for say Argentina, would that change the perception? I’d rather have Defoe than Tevez for example but many put the Man City Striker in that ‘World Class’ category. I think Defoe is getting there. Cue mass derision…

Defoe better than Tevez… My sides are splitting, you’ve made my day. Ridiculous spurs fans.
Tevez and defoe both playing in teams who are playing well, who has scored more? Who scored more last season despite playing for teams who were struggling?
Tevez and Defoe are different types of player. Tevez will struggle to outscore Defoe but Tevez very rarely plays as an out and out striker. He plays behind a front 1 or 2.
I’m a spurs fan and even i don’t think defoe is world class or anywhere near it. did you see that chance he missed against Bolton? A WC player would have scored. He’s a good prem striker but that’s as far as it goes. Crouch should play for england with rooney imho.
Defoe is far better as a striker, but Tevez is capable of so much more than only being a forward so the comparison may be a bit out of line.
I’m a United fan and have always rated Defoe highly, i’d always wished we would have brought him in at some point. He’s a predator and will get goals at any level. He’s better than Tevez was watching him in a race Vs Dunne the other day and he got rinsed. I expected alot more from him at United he lacks pace, cant head, is one footed but some say “World Class”?…….NO!!
Would swap him for Defoe for MO any day!!

We have great, great strikers in England, always have, and always will, we have great defenders, excellent midfielders and of course we don’t lack upfront thats bollox… (what does Marcel Desailly REALLY know about english football? he’s jealous…)
firstly the english game is the pinnacle of football in terms of money and stature I think, many players want to come to the league at some point in their career, but not many english players ever wanna leave the league, I think that factor has done more harm to the way the english team is viewed, we import many into our leagues, but export hadly none?? coupled with our lack of success with talented pools of players in recent years gives the wrong impression, I don’t think we can a judge a player world class until he plays in the Premiership… (shevchenko and rebrov proved that lol… so too Drgba and torres – they either sink or swim…C. Ronaldo… messy running scared?) in regards to rooney he is world class, in my eyes he’s up there with torres & drogba in a small small group of true world class players.
I have always rate Defoe – world class is a bit strong though.
I’ve always considered World Class to mean that the player could walk into any country’s national team. This is definitely not the case with Defoe, but it’s not with Tevez either. Out of the two I would choose Defore because he actually scores goals rather than running around like a headless chicken all game.
Defoe,Rooney and may i say Crouch are World Class Players.
