Flog him! Spurs fans say sell Robbie Keane

robbie keane tottenhamYesterday’s poll on this website asked if Spurs should sell, drop or persevere with Robbie Keane in the wake of some poor performances this season.

You can join the discussion and see the original article here. You can also still vote in the poll (on the right hand side).

As things stand, 818 people have taken part in the poll with 61% saying we should sell him, 24% saying drop him for the foreeseeable and 15% saying we should keep him in the side.

I wonder if those stats would change much if we do the poll after the next match he scores in?

I feel selling him only works if we have someone lined up to take his place. If not then we must like it or not get behind him and support him to try and get him scoring again otherwise we are cutting our own throats. We need everyone playing at their best so from now till the end of the season even if you do not like a player support him in a positive way because he might just score the goal that gives us 4th place and it might be your support that helped him do it.At the end of the season is the time to say who’s going and who’s not going. This must start on Wednesday with a win at the pool and singing the praises of all our players.

  • Stoney

Absolutely flog him. Flog him before I start to hate him. He once was great but now he’s fucking useless. I don’t want to remember him like that.

  • nigel

i’m sick of this debate anything that says keep him is just sentimental rubbish if it was pavlyuchenko missing keane’s chances no one would think twice also to the people who say that the fans should get behind him and not criticise need to get real if you got payed £70,000 a week to do your sopposed passion then you would be the best you could no matter what some people on a website think.

  • Del

Flog Bale! Never been in a winning Prem team from the start! Dont get me wrong, I feel sorry for him and he is a talent but if we are serious about CL, we must get rid of him!!! He is a curse!! When are ppl gonna start seeing this?????

  • Davy41

Nigel if your boss and all your workmates shout and say things to and about you everytime you are in work would you give your best all the time. You are missing what i am saying if we do not have a better option lined up to replace Keane then why sell him as Pava does not want to play for us anymore.Selling Keane means we have two strikers to play the rest of the season and if we can’t get another in we are f**ked .What i am saying is if he is still here come the end of this window then shouting negative things at him will not make him play better as it would not make you want to stay at your work.I here people saying play Gio and yes in some games you may be able but not in others.I saw people say we had a great squad but i said we had a ok one and were weak in areas ,striker being one of them.Defoe misses lots of chances every week and i read that on Saturday in the first 60 minutes he did not do a lot of work either. It is simple do you want us to play in the champions league next year then come Wednesday and every game from now till the end of the season we must be the loudest and best supporters in the land .

i know i’ll probably get slaughtered for this but here’s why i think robbie keane should be kept as captain and should be 1st choice striker.

    1. he is a class player, nobody who saw him in his last stint at the club could argue otherwise
    2. class never dies, deep down you all know it
    3. nobody else in the squad bar dawson has what it takes to lead a team
    4. defoe and crouch are both quality players too but are either as good as keane can be on his day?
    5. robbie would improve any of the teams competing with us for 4th place and that’s where he would end up, Villa being my bet.
    6. nobody in the prem would be available to replace him (except maybe bellamy) – that means a foreigner – who would take ages to settle.

    keane leaving would weaken us!!!

We Have just got rid of a player who has scored 14 goals and Kept one who has bean treated like a leper if we sell him who do we get in his place Cole he couldn’t score for eight solid weeks.Look who is scoring goals every week Drogba Anelka and they are playing week in week out not every blue moon Bent 14 goals have proved sharpness comes with game time ,look what has happened to Crouch with his in out he his starting to miss easy chances .The problem is the higher you aim the less time you have to impress like Berbatov he went eight games before he opened is account for us he cant go one game for Utd or Fans want him dropped especially if they get beat. Now because we are chasing fourth spot we are blaming Keane hudds Palacios we have turned in to a pack of wolves excuse the pun baying for Robbie . If he was not creating chances then he is rock bottom and should be sold well at the moment he is and the pressure mounts with every miss. The problem is Harry cant allow this because he brought Keane from Liverpool’s Bench and he helped us up the table when Defoe had got injured and Crouch was a first choice striker so how do you keep every one happy and Sharp well for a starters don’t play Robbie in a game with out Lennon against a five man Midfield why play four at the back when they had no shots on target we could have played crouch and had Bassong Dawson Corluka got the goals then closed the door Hull may have attacked a three man defence and I bet we would have scored with Hull attacking dont blame Robbie he has not played 5 games at once my advice Keep till the Summer because you cant perform if you feel unwanted and he will always have class in my memory.

  • LotharKlinsman

Keane 4eva. I’m not gonna slaughter you, I’m just gonna say what I have to say on your 6 points.

    1. He was a class player, wich means
    2. Class might not die, BUT it’s not enough to keep hold of him.
Ginoa was class, Klinsman was class, Greaves was above class, and we’re not thinking about using any of them again are we. He can become good again, but I doubt he can for spurs. If Dawson has a bad run of games he’ll play a few for the reserves, if Woodgate comes back he might play a couple for the reserves, how come Keane can play 20 BAD games (and a good one against Burnley) and be first choice and captain..
    3. Dawson can lead, King is our first choice if fit, Woody can lead, one of them are usually fit. with the money we get for Keane , we could bye a natural born central midfield leader, I’m sure.
    4. Keane hasn’t had that day since he played next to Berba. That’s like going to Manchester and say haha, we were the first to win the double in the 1900..soooooo they’re dooing it now. We don’t play a player EVERY game because he used to be good….
    5. ANY player Redknapp would bye for the Keane money would improve us more. AND, Present Day Robbie Keane beeing not in our team would improve us automaticaly.
    6. Bellamy, Ch. Cole, DARREN BENT, Ken Jones, Diamanti we could even try to get Berbatov back, he would partner well with Defoe. and there’s a thousand foreigners who would be brilliant in less then the 20 games Mr Keane has had to become good again.

    keane leaving would strengthen us!!!!!

  • Stoney

Keane 4eva. What a load of sentimental tosh. Yes, he was a class act, but that’s the problem. WAS! If you’ve watched him in any games this season, I’ve been to every home game and some away, he’s been a shadow of the player we all know.

  • nwcockerel

Stoney you Keep away from Liverpool because there is a lot of Irish Men want a word with you calling there Captain. I will have a bet with you before the end of the season you and the traitors will be huddled in a corner while Keano rings out round White (HOT) Lane and I will be stood behind you with my hand out and bash  you on your missing brain cells

  • pristar

can we somehow send the results to tottenham…… harry needs to get the message…..

  • nwcockerel

Will all Spurs fans be patience i have had a word with the King of the Leprechauns and he promised he would score the winner at Anfield. coys : : :smirk:

  • All Roasted.....

Lets face it Honest ‘Arry re-signed Keane when we were in trouble last season for just as much as he could do off the field as on it.We needed a dressing room voice amongst the young team and Robbie fitted the bill.Jermaine’s a definate starter, the two together don’t work.I’ve sussed Robbie. He is the worlds greatest 5-a-side player in the world. If i were playing in our midfield i’d tell Robbie to get out of my way and go back up front.Problem is Robbie doesn’t have a position he intetferes with play.Let him go to celtic it’s his ‘boyhood club’.tell Alfie Conn to get the white horse oils aaaaaaaaaut

  • All Roasted.....

P.s.When i say in the world,i mean….in the world!!!!!!!!!!.going to bed now or i,ll never get up for my job as a proof reada 4 da sunn.

  • kenneth Munn

we must keep him, he´s a late bloomer

  • Spurssince80

If I was Robbie Keane reading this I’d hand in a transfer request. I am telling ye lads, Crouch and Defoe will NOT get us 4th much as ‘Arry might love them to. But maybe it would take Keano leaving for ye all to see it. The guy has been the engine behind everything good at Spurs in the last 6 years. He should not have been sold but then neither should Berbatov and this is the thanks he gets – Defoe is a waste of space without the ball at his feet in the box or just outside it, other than that he does NOTHING. In comparison to Keane he brings very little that Spurs actually need at the moment i.e. graft, energy and motivation.

  • I8Arsenal

Pretty sad really, Robbie is a legend, Martin Jol was the best manager for him, he knew how to play him, the little Irishman runs his socks off for us, always has done. So what other legends shall we have a go at next, Hoddle, Perryman, Ardiles, Teddy, Gazza, Klinsman, or maybe Bill Nick?

  • natrugby

i remember watching manu vs liverpool when berbo & keane hugged before kick off, they forgot about us (in the sh*t), we sighned pav when keane could not even get into the pool squad, i am just as fickle as the next man, if he scorded on saturday there would be no problem but he never does, why should be given more chances to prove himself than pav. he should never have been resigned at least then we could have rememered him how he used to be. (judas).

  • All Roasted.....

cant believe what im reading, calling Robbie Keane a legend, comparing him to Hoddle,Perryman,Gazza and Bill Nick…..to even write that crap just proves how little you know of our history and shows you were not around in ‘the days’ mate.those names are just names to you.Robbie Keane and Bill Nick in the same sentence are you 4 real.Defoe was sold against his will,we all knew Berbatov was going and then Keane hands in a transfer request to go to his ‘Boyhood club’Liverpool.Funny thing was me ol son,Liverpool wasn’t his boyhood club when he had the chance to go there and he chose Wolves instead years ago.Robbie is a journeyman,a decent player but no Spurs legend. And any team that cant finish off Wolves,Stoke and Hull at home with or without Keane shouldn’t even be thinking of champions league.

  • terrabilal

Goodbye and thanks for the memories robbie but the moment you told us that Liverpool was your team that was the end of that. But what we should look at is? why did he come back as Captain? What a liberty what a bad error in judgement.Liverpool didnt want him and we say that we want a place in the Champions League and yet we take back someone who looked out of sorts at the very top level? who’s the fools us or them? its time for change as much as I love Ledley as well its time for change (if we wanna get anywhere)after 30 years of going to the Lane without very much joy in the League it really is (time For Change!) Goodbye Robbie Keane your now like my Ex girlfriend sad but true Ciao Bello x

  • Ravspur

The only way Keane can prove us wrong is if he leaves and we finish worse than 8th. Then maybe I can believe there was something he was doing in our dressing room, because he certainly isnt doing it anywhere else. I wouldnt want to see him sold to prove this point.

  • Spurssince80

Keane handed in a transfer request when Berba was sold – why the f^ck was Berba sold? Who let’s their star player get picked up from the airport when he is under contract? I don’t blame Keane at all – I blame Levy – it was all about a quick 20 mill for him when it came to Keane and so what if Keane supported Liverpool when he was a kid, are you telling me Spurs should only sign Spurs supporters?

You people are unreal – there would be no 5th finishes without him. The Pointy SHouty Bloke as he is called is the ONLY one on the field who actually points and shouts. He is the only one who marshalls the troops, motivates and keeps them going. He didn’t play against Everton, we went 2-0 up, Crouch misses a sitter, we decide to cruise for the last 25 mins, Everton make a double sub, we don’t get a sniff of the ball, Defoe and Crouch look like they legs are shackled together and Keane is sitting on the bench. 2 points gone. Does he score as often as he should? No. But he brings far more to the team, especially in the tougher games, than Defoe or Crouch will ever give ya because he is prepared to graft.

Unbelievable some of the stuff that’s been written here – take Defoe’s one off goalfest away from him and he’s nothing.

    • natrugby

spurs 80, we are living in an era of player power, berba got picked up from the airport because he refused to play for us( do you remember) we did not want to sell him, that is why united payed top dollar for him, when keane got tapped up he made it clear that he wanted to go, we did not want him to go, that is why we got away with daylight robbery 20mil, you talk about the everton game well if thats the case it’s a good job he started against hull wolves & stoke. selling him back to us is the best bit of business benitez has done, remember keane could not even make the squad up there.arry seems determine to play him regardless of form, apparently we are looking for a keeper i say bother if gomes gets injured why not give a keane a try in goal.

  • Anthony

Keane is not the player he use to be.

Personally I lost all respect for him after the ‘Livergate saga’, he had reached his peak and was losing half a yard before leaving us (anyone who watches the games live would have noticed that). The only reason it didn’t show up as much, was because of Berba! It was understandable (although not liked) Berba wanted to go to ManU, because lets face it, he was head and shoulders above everyone in our team and is defo World Class! But Keane, well lets just say his head got too big for his shoulders!

Now that he’s back, tell me exactly what he does on the pitch?! He fakes to tackle, makes out like his chasing back, but watch how many tackles he ACTUALLY makes! He slows the attack down, he waves his hand in the air for any slight touch or falls over. Just look at the game the against Hull, the incident where it look like hand ball, rather then attacking the ball and trying to score, he ran to the ref to appeal for the hand ball! Probably hoping to get his goal tally up from the penalty spot.

Harry seems to feel that he is good for the dressing room, if that is the case keep him, however if he is not doing it where it matters i.e. on the pitch, then he does not warrant his place and the likes of Pava, should be given an opportunity. I love Harry, however his stance on the Pava/Keane situation is not good for our challenge as well as enticing other strikers to the club. Imagine if your at another club and your seeing Keane get into the team week in and week out, yet Pava is not even getting a chance. Sorry, but Harry, you need to remember that this is about Spurs and not your own personal agenda or stubborness!

Basically, if a replacement is found, then Keane should be sold! If not then kept! Think about it, how many managers have thought about purchasing Keane now, where as some big clubs have enquired about PAva… it is there for all to see!

  • I8Arsenal

I do know our history, i was in the stands watching Hoddle(God), Ardiles, Villa, i was at Wembley watching us winning the F.A Cup, at Bill Nicks Testimonial. I was at White Hart Lane walking around the ground, sitting in the West stand with tears rolling down my face when Bill Nick passed, so dont tell me i dont know our history. As far as i am concerned there isnt a player on our books now who are in the same league as the players mentioned, i am just sick of supposed Spurs fans rubbishing our players.
“Any player coming to Spurs whether he’s a big signing or just a ground staff boy must be dedicated to the game and to the club. He must be prepared to work at his game. He must never be satisfied with his last performance, and he must hate losing.” Billy Nick
If any player didnt think the same as Billy, then i would have a dig at him!

  • Del

Its just before KO. Bale is playing. I will tell you now we will not win! I want to be wrong, but I wont be, trust me….

  • Spurssince80

Well lads, it’s the 50th min. Harry true to form has gone with his usual suspects in a battle against a tough team away. Bale, Jenas, Crouch and Defoe and Modric on the right. If O’Hara was match fit he should have been left back. Dawson was unlucky slipping for the goal and the off-side was a joke. But this is a battle and Harry’s favourites (Jenas, Crouch, Defoe) aren’t contributing anything, Jenas has been booked and we have no goal threat. No graft, no motivation, no effort, Crouch no closing down, Jenas misplacing passes……to be fair Defoe is trying to close down the back 4. This game is tailor made for Keane but I guarantee he won’t get a game. Jenas isn’t bad, he’s woeful.

  • Spurssince80

    When you’re wrong you’re wrong…….

  • Brycie

Thats what you get for being a smart arse and organising a jaunt to Dublin on the QT well done Keano you knob!!!!!
