Giovanni Dos Santos will miss Mexico’s final two World Cup qualifiers with the injury that he picked up against Preston last week.
Mexico federation executive Nestor De La Torre told Reforma: “He has a problem with a tendon in his left ankle, and it’s something that could keep him out for three weeks,”
“So he won’t be on the roster. The recovery time won’t allow it.”
Gio being out for three weeks means that he will be back at roughly the same time as Luka Modric. This just makes you wonder; has Gio missed his big chance to shine in the Croatian’s absence? And will he get another chance before January?
With the World Cup coming up and if the answer to the above questions is no, I fear that we’ll be seeing another loan for Dos Santos in January or possibly even a transfer away altogether. I hope not because you just get that feeling with Gio that he might be a bit special.

Has he missed his big chance?
Well how could he, its not like he got injured on purpose, and Harry wouldn’t have started him on the left in place of Luka anyway even if he was fit. Niko was bought to cover that side. Gio will be sold in summer 2010 and not before. Yeah he’ll probably go on loan in January. We need the squad to challenge for Europa League (4th not likely i’m afraid) or a cup or 2, but next summer he will go. He’ll want to go by then anyway.
If Harry decides to ease Modric back into the side, then maybe there’s still a chance, but I wouldn’t worry to much about Harry moving Gio on,as i’m sure he knows a good player when he sees one.
Also I am lead to believe that Gio has upped his game since a heart to heart involving himself, his parents, and our Harry. But I would like to see David Bentley start soon, such a talented player I hope he starts to believe in himself again.
After giving your question more thought I believe these players to be so talented that they could play anywhere across the middle or up front,so there will be plenty of opportunities if he stays patient.
de santos deserves his chance……his talent is what it is
hes a spurs player…..so expect cup games etc
This has to be the hardest of hard knocks to any player I’ve ever seen here is a player who for me has what it takes to be a top player gets injured just as we get a new manager then can’t get a look because we get a super buy in Luca he gets injured and then so does Gio. I would love if we could keep this player but somehow I can’t see him staying and you just know what’s going to happen come world cup next summer. Yep we sell him in Jan then he does a Jim Bowen totally sets the games on fire “here’s what you could have had”, you can just see it coming. Lilywhite til I die.
He obviously is a very talented player. He was taken to Barca as a kid, and they didn’t want him to leave, they just knew they couldn’t promise him any first team action any time soon. In regard to your observation that the observation that he could play anywhere across the midfield – I would also point out that he is often categorised as a striker (not quite correctly) – but there again the frontline is so strong too. But, in regard to the left-wing, Luca’s preferred position is actually offensive midfielder; Kranks is also adaptable enough to comfortably play on left – so, either way, he may struggle for anything other than the odd cameo appearance. it is a pity, because, as the author says, he may just be that little bit special.
maybe gio is not for spurs… it’s sad that tottenham will lose a big talent player in january.. gio never had a real chance, he’s young but he wants to play.. so let them go… spurs manager doesn’t want him.. here is not gio’s place.
To beat top sides and some stubborn ones you need players like gio to do something special and he has the ability look at is goals for mexico and last year in a weakened team in the UFA against Shacktar he scored a pelter and is last game for barca he got a hatrick. Harry will play him but the one big worry he keeps getting ankle problems like bale these can take ages to stand the riggers of football just look at Bale lets hope like Bale he makes a full and lasting recovery .
