Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has given up hope of signing Roman Pavlyuchenko.
Fresh from masterminding an injury time equaliser against Spurs at the weekend, McLeish said:
“It looks like the deal is dead in the water for Pavlyuchenko.
“It looks like we are not going to get the trophy signing we thought we might. But I think we have offered enough.”
What does this mean for Spurs? Birmingham were the last hope in terms of re-couping anything close to the £13.8m that Spurs paid for the Russian striker and the smart money is now on a return to Russia for Pav in a last minute loan deal – if he leaves at all. Otherwise, it looks like brinkmanship from Birmingham and we know what Levy is like with that. Expect this to go right down to the wire.
