This isn’t a knee jerk reaction following yesterday’s match. Robbie Keane has, as far as I am concerned and barring the 4 goals against Burnley, been pap for the entirety of this season.
Here are his stats for the season so far:
Take out the Burnley match and he has two goals from 16 starts in the league. And it’s not as though he hasn’t had chances, he’s missing sitters in every game.
Most obvious common denominator in the matches against Hull, Stoke and Wolves? Robbie Keane starting up front.
It seems clear to me that Keane should at least be relegated down the pecking order behind the likes of Pav and Gio Dos Santos. And the only reason I say that is the fabled bubbliness in the dressing room.
But then, if we just drop him long term, where does that leave our striking options? Pav and Crouch would probably not be the perfect partnership. And Gio may or may not do it. Yes Pav will probably be sold this window but stories in the press would suggest that his transfer fee has been earmarked for other areas of the squad. If we don’t sell Keane, we won’t be able to bring another forward in to replace him.

look this really is knee jerk stuff. keane is a top player. if we put him up for sale, the interest would be massive. he may not be scoring goals but he’s contributing in other ways. pav? the moany little git would just mope. gio? there’s a reason he isn’t playing. the mad thing is that if one of our many chances against hull had gone in, we wouldn’t be talking about this. in harry we trust.
I am so glad someone else has realised that Keane has started against Stokw, Wolves and Hull. Why Harry has changed a winning team I do not know. Keane’s inclusion in these games have ended good runs. We have not only not been able to win any of these 3 games but we have failed to score and only taken 1 pint from what should have been a certain 9. We do not deserve 4th with results like these! I think Crouch is poor, I actually call hin Useless Pete, but he cause’s problems and works well in our team, just like Heskey for England.

keane is clearly not same player he was before he left for liverpool, rafa benitez ruined (in my opinion) his confidence, don’t forget he left for his boyhood team.i can understand it must seem like coming on as sub & then being taken off, i am not trying to diss him but i feel sorry for the likes of pav a world class player sitting on the bench watching an off form player missing chances & not getting the chance to show what he can do.
I see this debate tears Spurs fans in two,… but the plain facts are, Keane (love him or hate him) he is NOT producing no were near enough, especially as being captain of our side, he is blatantly under performing and we can all see it, I say play crouch and defoe up front, But Harry has to try and Justify making Keane Captain, off the field he probably is a great captain, on it, he is not and hasn’t been doing enough, maybe he’s past it,. I don’t know, just sharing my opinion!

I dont think we should sell now. But I think an extended time on the bench might do him some good.
Keep him and start him every game. Problem is with ‘Arry, he likes his ol’ boys and likes putting them out together so we will have the Crouch and Defoe show for the rest of the season. So predictable every other manager has figured it out. Stop playing players who obviously are not prepared to work. In that I would include Hutton, Jenas, Huddlestone, Bentley, Pav, Crouch and up to recently Defoe (but in fairness Defoe has upped his game over the last 3-4). Play players who are prepared to work their proverbials off for 95 minutes and start them every game – that includes Keane, Lennon (when fit), Modric, Krancjar, Palacios, Assou Ekotto, Corluka, King, Bassong, Dawson and buy to find cover for them.
You cant be serious – Jenas, Defoe and Crouch have their faults but unwillingness to work isnt among them!
I acn understand dropping Keane for Crouch (although he’s hardly lethal either), but dropping Keane for Pav?? How many times does Pav have to say that he doesnt want to play for us before we believe him? Dont know if Gio is fit, but wouldnt he be more of a replacement for Krank or Lennon?
Don’t understand you folks… I even think that he could have won HUll game for us. Only thing is hindering him is faith. It happened to him in Leeds and Pool. Whenever he is needed and is shown respect, he will step up! Harry has his dream boys Defoe and Crouch in front of him which might be goos option, but where was Defoe in all 90min. Nobody blaiming on him. He did not even work that hard, bastard.
He is the leader, other than Crouch and Defoe (King and Woodgate cannot be judged) are laugter in that sense. We need proven character on the pitch. Modric is at least two seasons away from that and Dawson is somewhat there but only in defense.
Maybe if Myhill hadnt saved Keaned shot with his face we wouldnt be saying this about PSB. You cant get away from the fact that he isnt the same player though, personally I would keep him until the summer especially if Pav is off. See who becomes available in the summer?
Keane has not been playing well for quite some time, however Keane is not the reason we drew with Hull, the reason is simple it was Myhill. Without him it would have been at least 3-0 so in this instance don’t make Keane the scapegoat.

Sell him together with Bale and Jenas. But the worst thing for Spurs is Harry. He puts Kean’s interest above that of the team. He is also incapable to couch the team when things aren’t going well on the field. He can’t change what obviously don’t go well during a game.
keane has not seemed as sharp at times……….but then new players at spurs have adapted to the EPL in the last 12 months or so …so hes probably had to change his game in some ways……strangely as soon as he went to liverpool
it changed him .why is difficult to explain….his character is important at thfc currently as the whole squad needs international heads who have the T shirt etc……so to let him go at this point seems premature……in this campaign……the careful decision to allow any players to leave or stay as thfc aims high is one redknapp knows too well so to have the options in forwards is strong…….dont forget other top players in other sides have been off form…..the berbatov time was awesome so maybe there….. is a factor …..hull away he was awesome……and may get crucial goals in the

PLEASE listem up everyone i havent read all the comments, all you have to realise is that keane does not fit into the spurs system anymore, the problem is that some people cannot accept that keane is not good enough and thats the case, remember before redknapp we needed keane because the team was built around him and played to his strengths, noe however, we are playing the best football since our 80s teams and before which consists of quick breaking football, this does not suit keane hence thats why we suffer, look at the pattern, keane started against, stoke, wolves and hull, please tell me what happened, also in all those games since crouch came on we had more options, i hope harry wakes up before we finish 8th again because ive had enough of dropping points, he also should play mdric in the midle as each time modric came inside not only did he create chances for his teamates he also got into good scoring positions himself, if harry addresses these 2 points were in the champs league and may also win the FA cup, NUFF SAID THESE ARE FACTS.
It’s amazing that Bale has not won a game in the Premier League when he’s started for us. Crazy! Of course that is not the reason we dropped two points yesterday. He actually played reasonably well. Myhill had the game of his life and must have taken numerous red bulls before kick off. What hurts is that we have taken 1 point from three games when we have completely dominated teams. (Stoke, Wolves and Hull) We should be on 46 points now in 3rd place behind United and Chelsea, we fully derserve to be. Keane’s shot that was saved by Myhill’s face in the first half was very unlucky. The second chance should have been put to the Keeper’s right but it still was a good save. I think Harry feels he has to start Keane every so often to keep him happy. Though you shouldn’t change a winning team and Crouchie should have started the game I feel. Hopefully we can end our terrible away record against the top four against a poor Liverpool team in the week. Maybe the Liverpool old boys (Crouch and Keane) might bag a goal or two. I think Defoe and Crouch should start though…
We are in fourth spot with other results going our way so it’s worked out quite well for us, Keep it up Spurs and Harry you’re doing a great job. COYS.
Maybe Pav will get a spot on the bench one week instead of Keane, come on a net one or two. That would give Harry something to think about…It does seem a shame that we have not seen what he can do, especially with such a good record. Though he is going to be behind Defoe and Crouch everytime.

Put him up for sale no one wants him except Celtic I sat and watched him yesterday, my heart sunk the minute I saw he was playing. He stops us moving, blames everyone but himself when he breaks down moves and in general is totaol rubbish.

Myhill had a fantastic game, but I DO NOT creditt him for a save on that Robbie (fuc)Keanes 2 yard strike. The Irish Shame had theWHOLE left side of the goal COMPLETELY open, YET he tries to put it UNDER (it looked like) Myhill who was laying down…. I know we footballwatching fans often shout out that we could have done it better ourselfs, and almost ALL off the time it’s all in our mouth, but if I can be completely serious for a moment. I ACTUALLY think I would have put that one, AND I think you would to *and I haven’t even met you. If Harrys wife would have scored on that header Bent missed last season, she shure would have nettet this one as well, that would put her tallie to 2 wich is one third of what Keane has and she’s an old (I’m guessing) lady..
it it not just the results. keane also played against sunderland, which was a very lucky win. he also started against man utd in the league cup. for those saying defoe played badly he does seem to perform worse when he plays with keane
I fail to understand why Harry gives a starting place to Keane considering that he is under performing and has obviously gone past his best and no longer fitting into the team so to speak. Why not bring in Pav sometimes to see at least what he can do. I have the general feeling that our strikers lack finishing sharpness. It is true Myhill has been outstanding in the goal but a team like Spurs should have been able to squeeze in a goal at least. We have to show more intelligence and finesse in front of goal. As a fan, I am very disappointed that Spurs could only pick a point at WHL against a team like Hull City.

If I didn’t forget Keane started the Fulham game as well, and we didn’t win. I think it’s high time Harry got his front-line right: there is NO excuse why we cannot beat the likes of Hull or Wolves, when MANURE and even the ARSE put these teams away easily – or at least when they are expected to. We’re playing well at the back, so it’s worrying why we’re lacking bite up front. Keane is not our option now when Crouch is fit, I seriously think Pav is a better out-and-out option than Keane, as he can be an aerial threat. I think we should sell Keane back to Liverpool (they do need a decent striker now) and then play Pav regularly.
If ‘Arry has favourites in the squad their names are Jenas, Crouch and Defoe. Keane is the engine. Spurs are not close to a side that can carry players yet. We can’t carry a target big man who does nothing but wait for high route 1 ball, we can’t carry a fair-is-fair lethal striker who won’t do anything else but sit on the edge of the box or in the box and wait to score and we can’t carry an attacking mid who won’t tackle, won’t battle and misplaces more than half his passes. This is Crouch, Defoe and Jenas albeit Defoe has recently improved his work rate. Keane is the engine, he links up midfield to the front, he scores (not as often as he should), he closes down centre backs and full backs), he motivates (points and shouts (and I can never understand why people criticise him for it)) and generally behaves like a club captain on and off the field.
I agree he tends to want to take the extra touch which maybe slows the speed that we have been playing at this season but we are not at the stage where we can carry non-workers yet, we are not Utd and not Chelsea. So I say, keep him, play him and don’t sub him and maybe play him as the link behind the front 2 and ahead of a mid 3 of Modric Krancjar and Palacios.
personally i dont think he works as hard as he used to and seems to have lost a yard of pace and whenever he tries to link up he gets in the way of mdic kranjcar etc.
For me if we were to sign another forward after the departure of Pav it would have to be Van Nistelrooy,
a;for his natural calmness in front of goal,
b;his immense experience in title winning sides and playing against teams the likes of which park the proverbial bus( and dealing with the cheeky blighters ).
We need a top draw striker someone who when comming short for the ball they can hold up the ball and are capable of turning and going pass the defender defoe lack this because of his height but he offers that goal area threat and good pace to run in behind to me defoe is ok happy with him . Crouch is ok for now you know what your getting links ok with defoe, I think its only because keane is so poor that spurs fans will accept his quality. Keane no pace first touch dodgy never scored 20 leagues goals in a season when some people talk about him I dont know what there watching they talk like he was great furthermore can someone please tell me the most league goals he scored in a season. We are such a good team if we had that striker that is world class to link up with defoe we could win the league next year. The last real striker we had was klinsman and he was old when he came. Take a risk and bring in van the man and saha get rid of keane and pav .
Lets all stop kidding ourselves in saying Keane is a top quality player, 2 years ago maybe, he wouldnt make the team for any other top 4 team so why should he for us. He is Bolton or Blackburn material now!!!

Just remember where we were 12 months ago before he came back. He’s going through a bad patch but so is Palacios, and he is not talked about as being a player Harry should drop. Keane is a vital member of the squad and will come good. Get behind him and the team and enjoy the ride, it’s better fighting for 4th than a relegation battle!!
Keane, is costing us, he is losing it. Slow thinking and slow doing.You’ve only got to look at his body language, he’s not interested. Crouch and Defoe, are working well together; if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.Sentiment is for another day sell him and move on!

yes we remember how good he has been and the goals he scored, but goals he scored 2 years ago dont get us points now if this season is the best for years to get in the top 4 and if we fail we cant blame anyone because of the points we dropped against hull, wolves and stoke (all of which keane started missed sitters and got hauled off before the end)
WTF did Arry play Keane over Crouch ? I am actually not a fan of Crouch (his ‘falling on his arse stats’ are far more impressive than his passing stats), but we seem to play far better with him in the side. Also WTF, did Arry play with 2 DM’s against a team that had no attacking threat ??
Four main weaknesses have been shown and proved again in this match:
1) Keane just isn’t good enough
2) Harry is a great motivator but as a tactician is very weak. You prove your real worth as a manager in the big games (ManUre , Chelski & Ar5enal ) & and the breaking down of teams who have none footballing tactics away from home(stoke, hull etc.) – he has failed BIG TIME!!
3) Defoe without Lennon isn’t the ‘amaizing’ player everyone raves about.
4) To really challenge the “top four” we need a world class ‘alround’ striker in Berbatoss (minus toss) mould & a world class midfield partner for Palacios.
I hate to say it, but its going to be ManShitty for 4th guys (appreciate there is a long way to go, but we don’t just have that X factor)… Unless he starts playing Modric in centre, then maybe, just maybe we have a chance????? Hope so… COYS!!!!
Keane is a complete and utter waste of space on the field, anyone defending him cant be watching many games and are wrapped in his supposed greatness. Keane played well alongside Berbatov I grant you, but that was different set up under Jol. Anyone with a modicum of nouse can see that he’s off the pace, intent only on self glory and doesnt fit it the side anymore. Redknapp was using him yesterday because it was considered an easy game, like the others mentioned, and got it wrong (again), these are the games where points should be in the bag. Crouch and Defoe everytime, Keane can piss off back to Liverpool or Celtic for that matter, waste of money, it was like giving back a lottery win when we re-signed the overrated twat!
This article has certainly opened up a number of diverse opions,some of them quite heated.But the truth of the matter is,since returning from Liverpool,Keane has not been the same player.One cannot fault his workrate.but his general all round play,has been pretty poor.
And while it is difficult,one cannot let sentiment cloud ones mind.If we are to push forward and look to progress.Keane just not fit into ourcurrent style.Yes he has been great for in the past,but he does not even seem to have the pace now to cope,let alone neeeding 5 or 6 chances to put one away.Percentage wise we just cannot afford that ratio if we are to progress.
